AFL Game 2

October 6, 2011

Today’s Fall League game was an inprovement for the Scorpions pitching staff as the offense continued to try to get jump started.

Sammy Solis got the start in for the Scorpions today and ran into trouble early. He loaded the bases in tne bottom of the first amd was able to minimize the damage to one run with a Nolan Arenado groundout. The Scorpions quickly responded in the second when Phillies prospect Darin Ruf hit a two-run homer. That would be the extent of the scoring for the Scorpions for the day. The Rafters were held scorless until the eight when they tied the game on Alex Castellanos’ first HR of the AFL. They would go on to win it in the bottom of the ninth when Hernan Perez doubled in Dixon Machado.

The only Giants players to see time today were Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik. Other than a dazzling leaping catch at short, Crawford had a quiet day at the plate going 0-4. Joe Panik was the only Scorpion to record multiple hits today, going 2-4.

Record: 0-2 NEXT GAME: Tomorrow night vs. Phoenix 6:35 MST ( Webb v Scholl)

Other Squirrels of note:
Going into tonights game against Chinese-Taipei, Skyler Stromsmoe was hitting .200 (2-10) with 1 RBI for Team Canada in the IBAF World Baseball Tournament. He has walked once and stolen three bases.

One of the Squirrels catchers, Johnny Monell, did an interview with the blog MLB Reports ( @mlbreports)  that is worth checking out if you haven’t already. He also will be starting winter ball in Puerto Rico shortly.
