Scorpions Game 1

October 5, 2011

When you have the kind of hitting talent that Scorpions have, a 2-hit one run game is not something you expect to see in the AFL. That is baseball however, you just cannot predict it.

Both starters, Cloyd (Phillies) and Dyer (Rays), kept the hitters at bay and made it a pitchers’ duel through 3 innings.  Zach Walters recorded the first hit of the game, for both sides, in the top of the third, and that would pretty much be it until the top of the ninth for the Scorpions. That is when Gary Brown tripled and then came in on a ground out to end the shutout.

It was quiet a different story for the Saguros. When Huntzinger came in the sixth he did not really fool anyone. After getting the first out of the inning he proceeded to give up three home runs (Beckham, Meyers, Olt) in the span of 10 pitches. Olt would add a grandslam in the eight to put the game just that much more out of reach.

Final: 10-1 Record: 0-1 NEXT GAME: Tomorrow at 12:35 MST are Salt River (Solis v Oliver)

Giants of note:
As I mentioned Gary Brown tripled and scored a run, ending the day with the line 1-3, 3B, RBI, R. Brandon Crawford went 0-4, and Joe Panik went 0-2. Austin Fleet got one inning of work and made it look relatively easy only allowing a hit to Mahtook. Stephen Harrold struggled a bit, giving up 2ER on 1H, 1BB, and 1SO.
